It is a privilege to have a pet and an honor to be loved by them so unconditionally. As pet lovers and owners, we know that we will more than likely outlive our precious animals. I’ve had to say goodbye to four of my pets before my final farewell to Clifford, my fifth. It never gets easier. Each time, a piece of my heart went with them on their journey over the rainbow bridge.
Clifford’s last year was filled with numerous appointments with a variety of specialists and holistic practitioners to minimize the degeneration in his back legs. At 13, he was such a trooper, rallying for every appointment I took him to. But when his health took a turn for the worse, I knew there would be no bouncing back. I had to say goodbye. I knew it was time to free Clifford from his ailing body, and I knew his transition had to take place in his favorite spot—on his couch.
I called numerous in-home pet transition services. When I spoke to Caring Pathways, I knew instantly from their caring, compassionate, and kind words that I had found the right place. Every detail was taken care of from start to finish.
When I met Dr. Kira Forlenza at my front gate on December 18, 2024, I knew she was the angel Clifford deserved to peacefully assist his transition. I wasn’t sure how my boy would react, and this was a brand-new experience for both of us. Dr. Forlenza put us both at ease (along with my dear friend who was there for support). She seemed to sense exactly how we were feeling and gave us the time we needed to ease into the process.
One doesn’t always describe an ending as beautiful and serene—but this one was, all thanks to Dr. Forlenza. After Clifford passed, I was given time alone with him before he was placed on a stretcher, wrapped in a royal purple blanket. He was carried out to her car with lovely flowers surrounding him where he was placed to rest—a most regal ceremony for the king of the house.
A few weeks later, I received the most thoughtful handwritten note from Dr. Kira—a keepsake I will forever cherish.
If you or anyone you know is facing this most painful and difficult stage with a beloved pet, please call Caring Pathwaysand request Dr. Kira Forlenza. It will be the best call you ever make.
