Tomas Sherman, who often heard from his human, Sharon, that he was the best cat in all the universe and all of time, crossed the Rainbow Bridge into The Great Kennel on Wednesday after a hard-fought battle with a digestive system disease. He had the best veterinary care possible in Dr. Christina Spears and the team at Park Animal Hospital. Dr. Gina Singleton and Dr. Jill Hickey were the compassionate angel hospice veterinarians from Caring Pathways who helped him and his human get through this hard hurdle. His pet-sitter, Jeannie Russell, whom he also loved, gave up a lot of her morning time to help administer medicine.
Tomas embodied all the characteristics his Irish-American human most admired—feistiness, outspokenness (ok, bossiness), a loving heart, and a sense of mischief. This prompted his human to give the more common name of Thomas, which was assigned to him at Dumb Friends League, the Irish spelling and pronunciation.
He was the boss of his house and kept Sharon on her toes and off the couch—unless he wanted to lie on her lap. He loved being out on his 8th-floor balcony in the sunshine and dancing with his human to jazz. His favorite iPad entertainment was a tropical fish swimming video. He refused to do housework but delighted in following his friend and housekeeper, Eva Garcia, around until the vacuum came out. He even learned some Spanish from her, adding two languages his human didn’t know in which to scold her.
He was a constant warm and loving presence in Sharon’s life and will be heartbreakingly missed.
“Good night, sweet prince; flights of angels sing thee to thy rest.”
