Batman

Jul 24, 2024

Batman joined my life 16 years ago when he was new to this world. I’d moved back to Boulder in Spring 2008 after living in Bolivia, found a nice treehouse in which to dwell, and adopted this sweet little bat-eared boy & his gray-toned sister Luna.

They were the first kittens I’d ever lived with and they instantly turned my house into a home — a home filled with wads of foil and feathers on strings and all the cheek rubs.

Batman lived through 3 boyfriends, 5 human roommates, a fussy feline roommate named Juliet, and a dozen Halloween parties during which he was made to wear a cape.

Through it all, he slept every night curled up in my right armpit, purring like a freight train and making sure I was never alone.

When Batman was 6, he met his first dogs, Vader and Ms Brandywine. Now 10 years later, he slept in bed next to Vader every night until his very last. He cuddled us in bed, smashing his face into ours and using Ron’s beard as a bristle brush. Batman completed Ron’s transformation from a dog person to an animal person (who I’m pleased to say now uses “cat purring” as his white noise sound).

Batman was my cross-eyed hero and my dark knight, and I loved him as hard as I could. I’m grateful to Ron, Vader, Luna, and our loving friends for helping me get through this.
