Next Steps to Consider
Our consultation services are designed to walk alongside you and your pet with compassion, clarity, and support during this difficult journey.
Through these conversations, the Caring Pathways team can help guide you in understanding whether:
- Comfort Care is an appropriate next step for your pet
- An In-Home Quality of Life Assessment would help evaluate your pet’s comfort and well-being
- A peaceful In-Home Euthanasia may be the kindest option at this time
Virtual QoL Consult Service Recommendation
If you’re caring for a senior or terminally ill pet and feeling unsure about what comes next, you’re not alone. Our virtual QoL service connects you with a veterinary professional through a live, 30-minute video consultation from the comfort of your home. During this conversation, you can share what you’re observing, ask questions about your pet’s behavior, and receive compassionate guidance about their comfort, quality of life, and possible next steps, including hospice care or in-home euthanasia options if appropriate.
Virtual consults are especially helpful for families navigating difficult emotions or uncertain timing. Whether you’re not sure if your pet is in pain, want to prepare your family for what to expect, or simply need space to talk through your concerns, this service offers experienced support without the stress of a trip to the clinic. While no medications or diagnoses can be provided in these virtual sessions, pet parents often say it brings them peace, clarity, and the confidence to move forward with love.

In-Home Consultation Recommendation
Our In-Home Medical Consultation allows our veterinarian the opportunity to observe your pet in his or her home environment. This will provide insight into your pet’s pain or discomfort levels, and challenges with daily activities. We will inquire about care and limitations as owner schedules and time constraints may complicate in-home palliative and hospice care plans. Anticipatory Grief Support
Anticipatory grief is experienced when faced with a terminal diagnosis of an animal companion. It can also occur with being the caregiver of an elderly/ ill animal companion. This grief can begin long before the companion has died. We begin to grieve the thoughts of our companion no longer being here, all of the things we do with our companion, all of the things the companion can no longer do and how our lives will change without them.
