Roxie

May 6, 2024

Roxie was 7-years-old when she came into our lives. I had recently lost my dad and was needing the comfort of a special dog to help fill that huge void. Roxie was found wandering in NE and was taken in and brought to CO by a wonderful rescue. She had obviously been living on her own, fending for herself. She had worms, was very thin, blind in one eye and very scared. The only way we could get her to come out from underneath her foster mom’s table was with peanut butter. We learned Roxie’s love of peanut butter would go a long ways in the weeks and months to come! We could tell right away she was a very special girl. I needed her and she needed me, and the rest, as they say, is history. With time, patience, love, and lots of peanut butter, Roxie eventually came out of her shell. She was with us (and her brother Hank, who worshipped her) for the next 6 years, until cancer quickly snatched her away. Roxie was not a social dog. She was used to being on her own, and so once she had a family, she chose only us to let into her world. She was the sweetest most gentle soul to ever enter our hearts. Roxie loved being out in the sunshine going on walks or chasing bunnies and squirrels with her brother. On the day she died, surrounded by her loving family, she happily lapped up peanut butter straight from the jar as she peacefully faded away. Just the way she would have wanted it. Thank you for blessing our lives, Roxie. We will love and miss you always baby girl.
