Our sweet “Maxi Boy,” as we so often called him, came into our family in May 2014 when he was just 2 years old. We adopted him from MaxFund in Denver, and he stole our hearts from the very first moment we met him.
Max embodied all the wonderful traits of a German Shepherd—intelligent, fiercely loyal, protective (especially in the car!), athletic, incredibly loving, mouthy, and, of course, a world-class shedder.
He absolutely loved car rides and was usually the first one to “load up,” as he was always ready for the next adventure. Over the years, he joined us on countless trips to Moab, Vail, and many visits to see his grandparents in Longmont. No matter where we were headed, Max was happiest when he was with his family.
One of his favorite things in the world was playing fetch. The only catch? He never actually wanted to give the ball back, so our games always involved two balls or Frisbees! As he got older, arthritis developed in his left elbow, and our vet recommended retiring from fetch. Instead, we spent our days taking long walks around the neighborhood or in the mountains, where Max happily sniffed every scent, barked at or greeted other dogs, and enjoyed the simple pleasures of being outdoors.
We will forever be grateful that Max found his way into our lives. For the 12 wonderful years he was with us, he gave us unconditional love, unwavering companionship, and more happy memories than we could ever count. He left paw prints not only on our floors but forever on our hearts.
We miss him every single day, but we find comfort knowing he is no longer in pain, running free, chasing endless tennis balls, and waiting for the day we’ll see him again.
You will forever be loved, forever be missed, and forever be our sweet Maxi Boy. ❤️🐾
