Dear Maddie,

I still remember the moment I first saw you—your picture was forwarded to me in an email from a friend. You were just 10 months old, and the instant I saw your sparkly brown eyes, my heart was yours. The note in the email mentioned your mischievous spirit and how you needed a new home.

The day we picked you up, you nestled comfortably in my lap and stayed there, wrapped in my embrace all the way home. We both knew—you had found your forever home. At the time, I had a beautiful young chocolate Lab named Bailey, and as fate would have it, she needed a companion. The two of you became inseparable, forming a bond built on joy, adventure, and love. Bailey taught you how to swim, how to savor a chewy, how to chase a ball with unbridled excitement, and how to walk off-leash with confidence—but never too far from the pack. As Bailey grew older and her vision faded, you instinctively became her guiding presence, always watching over her, supporting, and protecting her.

Even after Bailey left us three years ago, though you mourned her absence, your zest for life never wavered. Always eager for the next adventure, you earned the nickname “Go… Go… Girl.” You filled my life with boundless joy and an unwavering love so pure that I often found myself wondering—who truly rescued whom?

I had hoped for more time with you, but it seems you had other plans. At the grand age of 13, you decided it was time to reunite with Bailey. Thank you for the 4,495 incredible days we shared.
I miss you dearly.
