A Tribute to Gaylord

Gaylord was my cat and dear companion, who passed away yesterday, December 11, 2022 as he approached the age of 20.
In June 2003, my wife Libby and I were looking for another cat we could rescue since the loss of our previous pet.

We went to a private pet adoption agency in New Jersey where we were unable to find an appropriate cat to adopt. As we were leaving, one of the staff mentioned that a discarded baby kitten was found by a kind-hearted individual on the street under a car. The male tuxedo (black & white) cat was only about two weeks old, almost dead, covered in grease and in a very poor condition. Discarded by its mother and perhaps a person, it was about to be put down. This poor, tiny creature was exactly the type of cat we were looking for. We were told that this animal would not survive for long due to his age and condition.

We were not deterred, and took him home to New Hope. After conferring with a vet, we proceeded to hand bottle feed and care for him. To everyone’s amazement, the kitten survived and thrived and that was almost 20 years ago!

Gaylord was a wonderful and beautiful cat and we loved him dearly and he returned the love to his adopted parents.

Then about 2 years ago, my darling wife Libby passed away from cancer. My grief & loneliness were intense. Gaylord felt the loss with me. He then proceeded to comfort me by staying close to me every day. His love and devotion kept me going and I owe it all to him getting through the last 2 years.

My Gaylord is gone now, and I really miss him. However my life has been good and in so many ways because of him. Just a small animal, a cat, who loved and was loved for almost 20 years

Gaylord, a very special cat, June 15, 2003 to December 11, 2022.
