Here at Caring Pathways, we believe deeply in honoring the bond between pets and families, especially in those final chapters of life when compassion and comfort matter most. That’s why we’re honored to be partnering with our neighbors in Berthoud, Colorado: Harley’s Dream.
Why the Rescue Matters: Giving Senior Dogs a Second Chance
Harley’s Dream is a nonprofit organization dedicated to fighting puppy mills, educating the public, and rescuing senior dogs who have been overlooked. Their Rescue & Rehabilitation division, often called “Harley’s House of Dreams,” provides senior dogs with a second chance: medical care, rehabilitation, a loving environment, and, ultimately, a forever home. Many of these dogs were previously slated for euthanasia or left in dire conditions.
Because Caring Pathways is also located in Berthoud, we feel a unique connection to Harley’s Dream’s mission and are proud to join together in support of these vulnerable animals and the families who love them.
Why This Work Matters for Veterinary & Pet Care Professionals
Compassionate end-of-life care is one of the foundational pillars of Caring Pathways. Supporting senior rescue, rehabilitation, and adoption aligns directly with our core values and mission.
Team-based care lessons: Harley’s Dream model demonstrates how shelter/rescue teams, veterinary support, rehabilitation specialists, and foster families can collaborate to restore quality of life, even for dogs considered geriatric.
Community impact: By supporting the rescue of senior animals, we also serve veterinary professionals by reducing crisis admissions, alleviating shelter overload, and promoting responsible rehoming.
How You Can Get Involved
If you’re a veterinary professional, staff member, client or pet parent looking to “give back,” here are a few ways:
- Donate to Harley’s Dream Rescue & Rehabilitation (every dollar goes directly to senior dog care).
- Volunteer at local events or in foster/rescue coordination.
- Partner your clinic with senior-dog-focused adoption drives or rehab support.
- Consider fostering or adoption: opening your home to a senior pet offers an extraordinary gift, providing comfort, companionship, and dignity during a dog’s golden years. Senior pets are often calm, grateful, and deeply connected to their adopters, making them wonderful additions to loving homes
Final Thoughts
Jeff Lewis, Caring Pathways CEO, said, “I so appreciate the care and service performed by the team at Harley’s Dream, and am thankful we can help by providing financial support and services through Caring Pathways and Amare Pet Cremation.” Our mission is to support exceptional end-of-life veterinary care, rooted in empathy, clinical excellence, and client-centered communication. Partnering with Harley’s Dream to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome senior dogs is a natural extension of that mission. We are privileged to join forces to ensure that older dogs receive the dignity, veterinary attention, and loving environment they deserve.”
Together, in Berthoud and beyond, we’re making a difference, one senior dog at a time.
