Carlsbad “Carl,” our good and best boy, lived to love his people. His utmost devotion was to his “food lady,” but for those who became his family, he reserved a loving whimper upon their return. We were his family and friends, although one could make a case that the hedgehog and chickens (especially the white one) were equally his daily companions, as he loved having and displaying them as much as he loved receiving them. He was a little boy in a big body and would have loved to be a lapdog, couch size and individual weight tolerance permitting. He was always on guard, alert for our return, protector of the house and mom. He had an ominous presence to those who didn’t know him, but always a sweet disposition. Far more than just a pet, Carl was a faithful member of the family, gently obedient (yet childishly insistent on being in proximity) and eager to please. As he always loved and missed his people, we too will always love and miss him.
