On 8/19/24, we had to answer the request of our dearly beloved Chandler, a golden retriever, to ease her pain and suffering. It came way too soon for us and was totally unexpected. But I had promised her that when her time came, she would let me know, and I would be with her, holding her tight until the very end. We called Caring Pathways on Sunday night, and they were so wonderful on the phone—so caring, so gentle. They said they could have someone at the house between 8:30-9:30 Monday morning.
It had been a long night of sleeping with her between us, carrying her outside to relieve herself, and talking about all the good times we had together. Dr. Brewster was our vet, and she was wonderful. She was so caring, calm, and compassionate that she felt like a family member. Our daughter and her fiancé were able to be there with us, and Dr. Brewster calmly explained the process and went about her business, accommodating the four of us surrounding, hugging, and caressing Chandler.
It was the hardest thing we have ever done, and there is nothing good to be said about it. But Dr. Brewster was a gem. I cannot recommend her highly enough. Everything about dealing with Caring Pathways was calm and complete, and they have a real gem in Dr. Brewster. I can’t imagine ever having to do this again, but if I did, or if I had to recommend someone to another person, Dr. Brewster’s name would be the one that would roll off my lips. Thank you, Caring Pathways, and thank you, Dr. Brewster, for making such a painful experience as calm and loving as possible.
