Lucy

Jun 11, 2024

Our beloved Lucy Monroe, our little arctic fox/polar bear looking baby, entered our lives 15 years ago. Back then, we were on a tight budget with no room for extras, but when we saw her adorable picture on Craigslist, we knew she was meant to be with us. The kind lady who was selling her for some reason gave us a discount (probably to seal the deal) and from that moment on, we affectionately called Lucy our “discount puppy.”

Lucy was the light of our lives for a decade and a half. She was especially close to her daddy, always by his side, even in her final days. Lucy had a mischievous streak; she chewed through walls, ripped up carpet, and got into all sorts of trouble. Yet, her cuteness always melted our hearts.

She had a big sister, Lollie. Despite their size difference, Lucy would drag Lollie around by her collar and terrorize her endlessly. However, they quickly became inseparable best friends. They loved camping trips, hiking adventures, and car rides. They were even flower girls at our mountain wedding and continued to bring endless joy to our lives.

In 2020, our home welcomed a new kind of baby—a human baby! Lucy was incredibly curious and protective of her new human brother.
After Remi was introduced to Lollie and Lucy, they both made sure to protect him. Even as Lucy grew more tired, she always watched over Remi.

In 2022, when Lollie crossed the Rainbow Bridge, Lucy was devastated, as were we. She endlessly searched for Lollie and often lay in her basket. We all felt the loss of Lollie and Lucy grieved for her just as we did.

By Christmas 2023, a new puppy named Bodie joined our family. Initially, Lucy was less than thrilled with the fluffy newcomer. But over time, she warmed up to Bodie, and we often found them cuddling together. As Lucy grew weaker, Bodie stayed close, showering her with kisses and love.

As Lucy’s 15th birthday passed, her body grew more tired. Though she always loved sleeping, now she slept most of the day. Without her vision or hearing, she relied on Bodie, Remi, and us to guide her. Our love remained endless; she was always a daddy’s girl, never straying far from his side.

When the time came to say goodbye, we ensured it was in the comfort of our home. Lucy was surrounded by familiar smells, the rug she always laid on, and the ones who loved her most. The last words she heard from her daddy were, “I love you most. I will always look for you and will find you.”

Remi has reminded us countless times that Lucy is in heaven with Lollie and isn’t sick anymore. He’s been our rock through it all. Bodie misses his big sissy, but we’ve showered him with all the love we can give.

To our discount puppy, our CeeCee, sisty, Wucy, fat girl, honey girl: we love you endlessly and will miss you forever.

Thank you to Caring Pathways, and especially Dr. Kellie who was incredibly kind, loving and gentle. We will forever be thankful for you.
